The Mission

You know that movie that everyone you know always tells you about? They can't stop raving about how amazing it is, how they simply can not fathom how you have not seen it yet? And then you finally decide to go see it, if for no other reason than to shut that person up, and you, what's the word...hate it.

Or how about when you see a movie and you're blown away. It's just amazing. And then you find out this movie made about $15 in the box office. Or it got absolutely dreadful reviews. And you're perplexed. How could a movie this great be so overlooked by the world?

That's what this blog is all about, those movies. The ones that got overlooked and the ones that are simply not what people claim they are. And also the ones that are just plain terrible and either have somehow still become popular or just simply a testament to how not to make a movie.

Consider this my public service. Where most people have spent their lives doing normal, people things and interacting with the world, I have just watched a lot of movies. So when you, the normal people of the world, find the time to sit down and watch a movie, don't you want it to be a good one? Imagine you finally have a free night to relax and you decide to watch a movie and you pop in that movie your buddy is always raving about, The Boondocks Saints. That's an evening you're not getting back.

And these are all my opinion. Naturally, people will disagree since everyone is different and have different conceptions of "good" and "bad". But, as someone who has seen many, many movies, I think I can tell the difference between a good movie, a mediocre one and a just plain bad one to a certain extent.

And the movies I consider "great" may have gone unseen for a reason. And that reason may simply be that they're not for the world at large. Kick Ass is a violent, vulgar movie and a lot of people would find it reprehensible. But they're not the people it was made to appeal to. It's a true comic book movie and is probably the closest a movie has ever come to really capture the tone of a comic book. But not everyone reads or likes comic books and if they don't chances are they also won't like Kick Ass. That's just an example, some movies are actually universally good and have just been overlooked or forgotten about.

So that's about it. The Godfather is not going to be on here but The Conversation may be. And then all those other movies you've heard so much about and have been meaning to see but really don't need to. You get the idea. Second thoughts.
